Working these past two months has shown me that even though campaigns approach things differently, they all have one thing in common: the volunteers that keep their campaigns running and the focus on grassroots campaigning.
The congressional campaigns we have worked on have all been focused on interaction between volunteers and voters. Walking door to door, or block walking, whatever the campaign calls it, is always a major part of the campaign. We have gone door to door for Steve Stivers, Steve Wood, Pat Tiberi, and Pete Olson. I always find it amazing that on these long and hot days high-schoolers and college kids are willing to work for a candidate instead of hanging out with friends or swimming in a pool.
This kind of dedication to a candidate is realized by voters. I’ve had a lot of people ask me “Isn’t it a little hot to be doing this?” Yes it’s hot, but to get intelligent and caring people in office is worth the sun burn and tired legs. The voters recognize that we’re working hard and that we care about who gets elected.
I hope our efforts have encouraged other people coming to our website to help out on their local campaigns and sweat a little bit for what they believe in.
Thank you
It's nice to see such vibrant, strong and young people campaigning to put more Republicans into office.
We need more warm bodies to fight all the coming wars that they will get us into.
Thanks for stopping in Tucson!
God bless you on your journey and keep up the good work.

Wow.
That's really personal. It's like the church shooter last month- he was so upset with their 'liberal agenda', he stepped in and started shooting.
See:
Affidavit: Man admits church shooting, says liberals should die

Could you guys PLEASE change that before someone else decides it's people and not policies he wants to kill?
I'll keep donating until you change it.
Donating to the opponents of every candidate you visit, that is....
I seem to recall a
I seem to recall a Clintonian economic surplus, and green energy initiative more than eight years ago that had a relatively stabalized middle east, an acknowledgment of our dependence on foreign oil, and a legitimate plan to remove ourselves from it, in peace-time, economically flourishing United States.
Now, with a republican in control for the last eight years, I see diametrically the opposite. I see a country committed to the stability of the upper echelon elite, and so dedicated to compromising the already shifted balance of a delicate eco-system that supports this human life that we are the most disliked country in the world, and we will quite soon find reprecussions for this hubris will lead us to not only be stripped of 'supreme power' status, but a direct contributor to the downfall of humanity's reign that will come with a warming world.
Bush is a criminal. His 'war' has led to the direct death of over 1 million Iraqis, and thousands of American troops. War criminals who have killed far less than 1 million people have been tried and convicted in the Hague. I recommend this fate for Bush himself, though I'm sure Roveian politics will get him out of what it got him in to, because our country is generally as narrow-minded, short-sighted, and self-righteous as he is.
Anyone who treats the ionisphere, the seas, the ground, and the o-zone layer as 'American'(really for the gain of big oil) is tampering with natural resources that do not belong to him, further instilling him as the most irresponsible man of the 20th century. To me, he is in the elite only in so much as he is on the very short list of the most dangerous, and most effectively destructive men that ever came to global power.
Mccain seeks to walk in these enormous carbon footprints. And it's people like YOU, Kerry, who are helping him.
How, after the last eight years of inexcusable inadequacy, ineptitude, and utter disgrace from the republican party, can you work for a man who has the same energy agenda, has said he'd keep us in Iraq 'for as long as it takes', and has so little backing from the international community that a majority of the rest of the world sees him as little more than an older version of the current megalomaniac???
Did you know bush just recently very quietly tried to redefine 'birth control' as 'abortion'. Look it up. I hope that wouldn't effect YOU, Kerry. I hope you know what kind of party you're dealing with, Kerry. I hope you know that you are merely a Marxian pawn in a Machiavellian game, for which you clearly do not understand the very real and very dire consequences of your actions.
We need to change our energy situation NOW. We need to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil and create sustainable fuels NOW. We need to attempt to correct much of the irreparable ecological harm this country has created NOW. We need to pull out of Iraq as soon as is humanly possible.
John Mccain is already in the pocket of big oil. He's already calling for an energy plan that could've been written by Exxon. He is pro-life. (WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT ABORTION???? Why must we still have the Republican-GOP agenda conversations? What has happened to the middle of this country that their ignorance mixed with their ego has so outweighed their social and ecological relevance that we are only left with some grotesque vision of American consumerism and manifest destiny that is destroying the very earth on which we live????) Mccain is nothing more than a compromising monster, ready to sell his once-moderate soul for political infamy. We need a liberal. We need someone who clearly sees which goals must be accomplished in order for a balance, a harmony, that allows us to neither be masters of the world, nor subjects to it. I'm not sure it's Obama but it sure as hell isn't Mccain.
Your lack of perception and foresight astounds me.
How about you 'sweat' for actualization of the self, and an understanding of the heirarchy of the planet, into which you fit, as a rather tiny element, made smaller by your narrow-minded, short-sighted, detrimental, self-righteous views.
...Or maybe you'd just rather watch MTV and listen to country.
May you one day wake to reap the terrifying consequences of the seeds of ignorance this day you have sewn.
All this controversy on a
All this controversy on a post about walking door to door and volunteers, you have quite the imagination. You also seem to have morphed President Bush and John McCain into a two headed monster, interesting. I’m looking forward to the future of the Republican Party and after meeting with a number of congressional candidates I know these are the people I want to see in my government.
I’m well aware of the party I’m dealing with, Anonymous. Do you know what party you’re dealing with? Because I’m all about the party that is for helping the people of this country, not the one taking a vacation for a book tour when we need a real plan for energy, Anonymous. Looks like the Republicans who are doing the job that they were elected to do aren’t destroying the very earth on which we live, Anonymous. It’s really too bad you didn’t put your name in your post so I could add your name to the end of random sentences too.
And to answer your question, “WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT ABORTION????” My post was about volunteers and sweating so you’re the one that brought it up, twice in fact.
Yes, I watch The Hills on MTV and listen to Taylor Swift, what of it? Since you’re so interested in what I watch and what I listen to, I’m a big fan of the band Cartel and the TV show LOST. If you haven’t noticed I’ve also been travelling the country campaigning for who and what I believe in.
Thanks for all of your input and the material that made this response possible. I hope I cleared some stuff up for you. I’m not really sure why you are attacking me for your dissatisfaction of the government though. The best thing I can say is to stand up for what you believe in, but you should respect the views of others at the same time. I would never tell you that you’re narrow-minded or short-sighted.
As for reaping the terrifying consequences of the seeds of ignorance that I may have sewn this day, I took a nap earlier and I woke up, and yup that’s right, I’m still a Republican and clearly not afraid to show it.
Ha ha! Yes, no candidate
Ha ha! Yes, no candidate campaigning should be allowed any personal time for his/her own life! And of course, no human mind is capable of doing something as preposterous as thinking about any pertinent matter while on vacation! I know when I'M on vacation, I lose all grasp of comprehension for anything other than dressing myself, sleeping, putting food into my mouth, and staring straight forward. What an irresponsible candidate! Not like Dubya, who has taken the most vacation days of any US president in history. HE is the one exception to the rule- he's able to think about important matters EVEN when not sitting at his desk or riding on AF1. Like what color would look good for a huge "mission accomplished" banner! Simply incredible, he is! Clearly, one of the premiere intellects of our generation!
Yes, lets think about energy! Lets think about the fact that oil companies are building new operations in the middle of urban zones like Los Angeles, and Fort Worth is experiencing the pleasure of natural gas extraction operations in residential zones! I can has renewable resoursaz plz? I bet you'd be just a-ok with it, if they decided to set up shop in your back yard, too! Lets think more about energy policy- wait, lets not. McCain has it all figured out! He says we should immediately begin drilling offshore, as well as in Alaska! Ha, whats an Alaska? Is that Republican for "MOAR FOSSIL FEWLS!!1!"? Capturing 2% of the sunlight that hits the American southwest annually could power the entire US, annually. Imagine how much cheaper electricity would be! Cheaper electricity = more TV = another 10 viewings per night of incredibly relevant and policy-oriented campaign commercials featuring Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton. Hooray! And whats better, with such a drastic reduction in Co2 emissions that renewable resources offer, we'd be able to feel less guilty about all the resource-squandering and waste-generating that doing things like driving all over the country to knock on other people's doors to politely shove propoganda down their throats naturally incur. *Cough cough Jehova's Witnesses cough*
I have so much more to say, but its 5 and I'd like to go home now. I'll be taking the Marc train from my job in Hunt Valley, MD, to my home in Baltimore, MD. Its inexpensive and generates much less waste per person than an automobile does. And aggrigately, one less car on the road is one small contribution to the congestion of urban rush hour, which is one small contribution towards fuel efficiency for all the people that choose to drive. I bet you've been taking the train a lot, given how energy-policy-oriented you seem to be.
In closing, I think it was wise of you to say that "The best thing I can say is to stand up for what you believe in, but you should respect the views of others at the same time." You have, in all likelihood, made him/her stop and think before their next post...otherwise you might have ended up with some response titled "Don't like Republicans?" And we wouldn't want people judging others and disrespecting based on their views, and/or categorically disrespecting their views in general.
KUDOS!
I hope you aren't driving mom's Escalade all over the country, btw.
I Liked The Aristocrats
Bob Saget is funny!
Don't like The Aristocrats?
Me neither. It's pretty gross.
Anyhow, I just want to say that I couldn't agree with more with the comment of Anonymous. I'm gonna be honest. I don't understand the whole 'Young Republican' movement. Besides the fact that the term in and of itself is somewhat of an oxymoron, why any fresh minded young person would choose to be affiliated with the grand OLD party (see what I did there?)at this particular moment in history is beyond me. Thats just a figure of speech but I'm sure you crazy kids will take it as some sort of admission. Thats ok, I don't mind.
I kinda understand the allure of the Republican party to young people of the fast 1980's. All the yuppies were coked up and looking to get rich as well as rebelling against their hippie parents. Perhaps the most skillful politician of our time, Ronald Regan was a charismatic actor who made empty promises for a false model of freedom. Freedom of materialism, self indulgence, and a freedom of collective recklessness. It was morning in America: You don't have to sacrifice, you can have more. All we need to do is get government out of the way and drill more holes for oil because the supply of oil was infinite. He gave moral sanction to the power of consumption.
This is why so much of what all (Right, Left and somewhere in between)imagine to be our politics is so misleading and false.
Ronald Regan was the guy who came in and said:
We need to shrink the size of government. Government didn't shrink during the Regan era, it grew.
We need to reduce the level of federal spending. He didn't reduce it. It went through the roof and the budget deficits for his time were the greatest they had been since World War II.
His predecessor George Bush 1 said in 1992, "The American way of life is not negotiable." Most people, Right, Left, somewhere in between, believe this to be true. I'd like to. It's an attractive concept. However, I ask you to consider this, "To preserve that which you value most in the American way of life we need to change the American way of life."
Of course you have to think about what it is that you value most.
We need to modify the peripheral in order to preserve those things at the center of what we value.
There is nothing in the preamble to the Constitution which defines the purpose of the United States of America as remaking the world in our image.
There is nothing in the preamble to the Constitution that ever imagined that we would embark upon an effort, as President Bush has defined it, to transform the Greater Middle East, a region of the world that incorporates something around 1.4 billion people.
I believe that the framers of the Constitution were primarily concerned with focusing on the way we live here. To try to ensure that as individuals we can have an opportunity to pursue our, perhaps differing, definitions of freedom but also so that, as a community we could live together in some sort of harmony,
AND
that future generations would also be able to share in those same opportunities.
Unless we do change out ways, our children and grandchildren may not have the opportunity to enjoy the same American way of life. We are squandering our power, our wealth and in many respects, if we continue to persist in our imperial delusions, we are also going to squander our freedom. Because imperial policies, which end up enhancing the authority of the imperial president to compromise freedom even here at home. We've seen that, sadly, since September 11, 2001.
I'm not suggesting imperialism as exclusive to the republican party. If a democrat were in office it may have gone a similar way.
However, the Bush Administration's response to 9/11 in constructing this paradigm of a global war on terror, and the Bush doctrine of so-called preventive war, in plunging into Iraq and an utterly unnecessary war, will go down in our history as a record of recklessness that will probably (hopefully)be unmatched by any other administration.
BUT
It doesn't really mean that Bill Clinton before him, or George Bush I before him, or Ronald Regan before him were all that much better because they all thought that through a projection of power we can fix the world in order to sustain this disfunctional way of life that we have here.
There is a political crisis in America. Taking a side, just to take a side is a dangerous game for us, the young America, to be playing. We have created an imperial presidency. The congress no longer is able to articulate a vision of what is 'the common good'.
Let's listen to what all the candidates have to say instead of picking a team because they are red or blue. Anonymous is correct, it is rather childish. It is extremely critical that we work together to fix he mess our parents have made for us.
Thank you and good day.
Agreed
We should work together. I wish the Democrats in Congress would think the same way we do instead of taking some time off.
What's the point in sticking
What's the point in sticking around when Republicans won't cooperate on stuff so basic as renewable energy tax credits?
The mess your parents made, or the mess our congress made?
I really do not even know where to start. I'm an older guy. While I feel you write with eloquence, I see nothing but hopelessness and a small amount of disdain for those who have found a purpose. What do you stand for? Are you planning to be part of the political process? These are questions I would ask you.
If you answer that you are for the party of change, for Obama, I wonder where you think we will as citizens see the government shrink? If Regan could not do it, how do you think a candidate like Obama would even come close? Especially with a congress bent on spending and expanding the role of govenment in our everday lives. Did you read the Farm bill?
We are at a cross road. Yes we need to take sides. We are also in a global community that no longer let's us close the doors and sit in isolation. If you say the process is too jaded for even a vote for Obama, I challenge you to go out and see the strife in emerging economies around the world and to see how they hunger for a chance to grow. For that matter, drive through rural America here in the United States and witness our own poverty. But poverty does not get solved by the government.
I suggest you take the time to read Banker to the Poor, by Muhammad Yusif. Maybe then you will see how oppression is defeated and that what makes the United States great is still out there in the poorest of nations.
Wow, acarpozo. You didn't
Wow, acarpozo. You didn't spam this one with your Obama Bop crap. What gives?
And it's Congress's fault, is it? Because they were presented with lies that attacking Iraq was the right thing to do? Who's at fault? The liar or the believer?
Expanding Government isn't exactly the worst idea. You know we have a government provided mail system, right? Big freakin' govt. delivering mail. What if big govt. delivered energy, jobs, education, environmental protection for you? I'd hate to think of a government that was so big it would build Hydro-Electric Dams, or Interstate Highway Systems... Who would want that?
It wouldn't need to be an increase in taxes to do this, we could easily re-allocate from that bloated defense budget.
Wouldn't that be fun? I would love to see teachers paid what Navy admirals get, and vice versa.
And I have seen the strife in emerging economies. I was in Guatemala (has the highest rate of homicide per capita in the world, wanna' go?) in March '08. Poverty is rampant, and apparent. Plastic bottles are littering the neighborhoods, and when they "clean up" they burn it. You know what burning plastic is like, right? Mal.
But why all the plastic? Why don't the water companies set up a water processing plant and provide plumbing like they do in the states. Because they can make more money of people who are forced to buy a product than a service. Laying all that pipe costs money, but driving bottles out doesn't cost at much. And who cares about the waste? We're making profit!
Because the capitalism of the United States is the best agenda for the rest of the world. Make profit by exploiting workers/resources/the planet. And if someone won't budge, build weapons to destroy them.
What do I stand for?
I stand for riding your bicycle to get across town. The cost is the food you put in your body, you stay fit, and you don't blow your cash on oil dependancy.
I stand for growing a garden, so that even a few months out of the year you get some really fresh food than you know is organic.
I stand for getting rid of the T.V. I switched to internet, and can't fathom going back to advertisements every ten minutes.
I stand for building a community. I hang out with friends, have pot-lucks, and work on D.I.Y. projects with them.
I stand for ensuring all of my actions take the next seven generation into account. An Iroquois idea, they had some good ones. You know Ben Franklin got the idea of United States from the Iroquois Confederacy, right? Pity we killed off, tortured, and relocated the natives of this continent. They knew how to work with it, and not exploit it. But where's the money in that?
I stand for making damn sure that we don't have yet another four years of disaster in the White House. And no, it's not only congress's fault. We have a system that ensures all three branches have to work things out. Oh, wait, Bush broke that down. Much like he broke YOUR civil liberties down too. I hope you get to see what a FEMA camp is like, but from the inside of the chain-link fence.
Not going to lie
USPS has lost many a postcard that I've sent to my friends.
Thanks for the response
Thanks for the response Kerry.
A pity all you could mention is that the USPS failed to deliver some of your postcards. Did you visit state parks? Go to a state funded university? Drive on state funded highways? Yeah, government spending on civic projects is apparently bad.
However, when the government sponsors war and terror in foreign nations, that's good spendin'!
Your Welcome
I've hiked in Shenandoah National Park.
I really like state land, I hunt on it.
I go to Fordham University.
This is a road trip if you haven't noticed.
I think that answers your questions.
I have questions for you:
When did I ever say that government spending on civic products is a bad thing?
I read your comment on Christie's blog, if you can't even put your name on here what are the chances that you'll actually confront us?
HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA.
ROFLMAO.
Seriously? You're like a bad caricature of a GOP poster girl.
ugh SERIOUSLY. i did just
ugh SERIOUSLY. i did just receive, however, a patriotic postcard. score.
same thing
The 'about' link made me lol. 'And they're motivated to reassert Republican ideals of organic government and fiscal responsibility in the halls of Congress.' Fiscal responsibility. Have you been hiding under a rock the last 8 years? I would have been too if I were a republican! Congress just had to raise the national debt ceiling for ole dubya to 10.6 trillion. Right...fiscal responsibility. Go get 'em!
Don't Like Democrats?
Ha.
I see this link at the top of the page of my gmail inbox:
Don't like Democrats? - WhereIsTheRed.com - We are traveling coast-to-coast to defeat Democrats - learn more!
Its very, very mature. And sophistocated. It speaks volumes about the combative nature of the Republican party these days. Not "Dissatisfied with Liberal policy-making?", not "McCain supporter?", not "Help your fellow Republicans win congress back!"...no..."Don't like democrats?"
Wow. Now THAT is the attitude of a party committed to working together and compromising, looking for ways to make things work in this country. We need more money for public schools. We need less dependency on other countries for our energy needs. We need attack the national debt. I'll save my opinions on military armament/arms proliferation, international standing and reputation, and several other topics- but the point is that with so many problems and issues that everyone can agree need to be addressed, what is the point of aggravating the situation with this kind of petty hate-mongering, which will only further widen this divide? Problems don't get solved when nobody will listen to each others ideas of how to solve them, and too many weak minds are being blatantly exploited by these kinds of campaigns that capitalize on peoples emotions instead of educating others and working to find a mutally acceptable solution.
The bottom line is that Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green, or whatever...believer or athiest...rich or poor, we're all American and we're all human and this combative attitude (that I have seen primarily from Republican-oriented organizations, though I won't say Democrats are completely innocent either) is immature and not at all helpful to resolving anything.
Good luck, haters. Grow up. Maybe I'll come back to look for responses to this...but in all likelihood, I won't. Bash away, and then examine the fact that you're more concerned with "defeating democrats" than you are with resolving our countries numerous and urgent problems. Or instead, put your energy to better use. The decision is all ours.
Um
Does this lady realize that the only reason to exist is to beat Democrats everyday?
Sheesh.
sun burn
think of it as sunkissed color and building up muscle tone in your legs instead of sunburn and tired legs. It's a benefit of your hard work. Good job punkin!
